Pass By: Reykjanes, Reykjanes, Reykjanes Peninsula

To get to Fagradalsfjall volcano we drive along the Volcanic Reykjanes Peninsula (Unesco Global Geopark). It is often described as another planet or a lunar landscape with its unique lava fields shaping the landscape as we imagine the moon or Mars. Most of the peninsula is covered with semi-fluid rock and impressive volcano ridges.

Stop At: Fagradalsfjall, 241, Iceland

The shorter hike - The fagradalsfjall volcano hike from 2021
This is the most popular and suitable for everyone, including seniors with average fitness and families with kids visiting the volcano.
We take path A, about 8 km roundtrip (4.9 miles), where you can see the front of the crater from the eruption in 2021.
We may detour around the lava field to see more, away from the main trail.
Total time can be from 3 to 4 hours, depending on your pace, or less if you are an experienced hiker.
Each way takes about a 30-45 min hike depending on your speed and stamina.
Elevation is about 300 meters (984 ft).
For this hike, we provide walking poles and crampons in the winter.
A gas mask will be available if we have an active eruption, and our guides will use a portable gas meter to measure the air quality during the tour.

• The walking distance to the volcanic crater at Fagradalsfjall volcano and the length of the tour may change due to the weather conditions per day and your own pace. The tour can be longer or shorter.
• This tour is weather-dependent, and the schedule may vary to ensure the best possible experience.
• Please note that the tour starting time is flexible and may change depending on the local conditions.
• Volcanoes are a natural phenomenon and the level of volcanic activity at the site cannot be predicted. Even if the volcano is not erupting during your visit, visiting the area is still fascinating.
• We offer to repeat the tour for free if an eruption occurs during your stay in Iceland, and we will schedule a last-minute departure with a small group.
