Kilkenny - Ireland's medieval capital - is just a 1.5 hour drive from Dublin. The Medieval Mile Museum is a great starting point for your visit and will help you explore the narrow streets, covered laneways, soaring towers and stunning castle that make up Ireland's Medieval Mile. 

Make your way to the museum, located right in the city centre in what was St Mary's Parish Church. On arrival you will be given an interactive audio guide, which will lead you through this 13th century church and graveyard, telling you stories of life and death in medieval Kilkenny. All the while surrounded by effigies, tombs and artefacts of the time, some of which have only recently been uncovered by archaeologists.  Younger visitors will have the option of using a child-friendly guide, incorporating a fun quiz.

Finish your tour with a stroll through the graveyard where you can catch a glimpse of ancient vaults and burial chambers. Then visit the gift shop where you can purchase a souvenir of your visit.
