Easy day hike to Cerro La Campana, a 1,900m peak surrounded by a national park of the same name. This area, declared a World Biosphere Reserve in 1985 since it is the location of one of the last remaining Chilean Palm forests, was visited by Charles Darwin in 1934 who described it as a “unique place in this part of the world”. The hike takes you through a beautiful sclerophyllous forest on the park’s humid Pacific side to the peak of Cerro La Campana, from where you can enjoy unique views of the Central Andes including Mount Aconcagua, the world’s highest mountain outside of the Himalayas. On the way back, we descend along the drier eastern face where we come across accumulations of Quisco cacti and finally reach the native Chilean Palm forest.
