You will be picked up from your accommodation in Cape Town as we are about to drive for 3 hours.
Connecting on the National Highway road, that can take you to 3 provinces in South Africa, namely The Western, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal Province. This is also the most busiest Highway in Cape Town, because it conncets most people into the City centre daily for work.
Driving East out of Cape Town we will pass a Township called Khayelitsha. In Xhosa it means 'our new home'. This is the biggest township in Cape Town with a population of half a million. Many of these inhabitants works in the City and are daily dependent on public transport. Khayelitsha also has its own economy and has seen it grown from strength to strength over the years. Some of the inhabitants also works in the Cape Wineland region, as this is closer to home.
Next we will pass Somerset West driving through Sir Louwry's Pass.
The pass is named after Sir Galbraith Lowry Cole, who was a Govender of the Cape in 1828.
Then we will pass the Steenbras dam. This dam is one of the dams that supplies water to the Province.
Next we continue passing the Elgin Valley. This is the birth place of Appletizer. Created in 1966 by blending a fruit juice with carbonated water.
As we still drive on the National Highway, we will pass Hermanus. This is the Bread Basket of South Africa. It gets its name becaus eof its warm climate with its humid winters, which is ideal for wheat Cultivation.
Then we will pass through a small town named Caledon. Primarily an Agricultural region that involves grain production and certain amount of stock farming.
Next we will pass a small town in the Overberg region, Bredasdorp
It is the main economic and service hb in this region, which makes it a bustling vibrant towm.
Final stop is Cape Aghullas where the two oceans, the Indian meets the Atlantic.
Elim
On our way back, we will drive through a charming town called Elim.
Established in 1824 by German missionaries as a Moravian Mission station. This small town is dominated by white fisherman’s cottages with approximately only 2000 inhabitants.
Gansbaai
This small fishing town is home to the Great White Shark. Located in the overberg region with a population of 15000 people.
HERMANUS
This is the capital for whales. The southern right whales comes to our coast. In the early days, they were the right whales to catch, hence they were given the names Southern Right Whales. These whales came close to the shore or boats, they were not shy.
Hermanus is a small beautifull charming town with a population of 50 000 inhabitants. Surrounded with ocean and mountains, Fishing also became very popular in this town. Hence this town is the perfect stop for fresh Seafood.
