Guided Tour of Herculaneum with an archaeologist
Naples, Italy
It's a group tour of maximum 10 persons. You will see a unique archaeological site of its kind in the world admired by thousands and thousands of people. The buildings of the city have been preserved in an extraordinary way, even the second floors and even the remains of beams, furniture and other charred organic finds are visible here. Herculaneum was a small, rich and noble Italian city that overlooked the sea. During the visit you will admire houses, baths, streets, fountains with their decorations, frescoes, mosaics and the skeletons of the victims. The city was destroyed by a terrible eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. and was totally buried by pyroclastic avalanches which preserved it for centuries until it was rediscovered in 1710 by a local farmer named Ambrogio Nocerino. It is a journey through Roman history and archeology without equal.
