The main square is the principal urban space located at the center of the city. It is a square space surrounded by historic townhouses and churches. The center of the square is dominated by the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), topped by a beautiful attic decorated with carved masks.

The Krakow Undergrounds Museum on the Market Square, opened in 2010, is a kind of archaeological park where you can observe pictures of the life of a large, bustling medieval city. With the help of modern technology, the authors of the project created the ideal illusion of a lively medieval city.
At a depth of several meters below the surface of the Main Market Square, from the Cloth Hall to St Mary’s Church, awaits a true treasure trove of information on Kraków’s past. In 4000-square-meters underground there are streets and stands of thousands of years old, and there is atmosphere of the market square - you can hear merchants talking and carts creaking. Scales, coins, clothes, jewelries and even human remains - all the artifacts were found during the excavations.
