Itinerary

Day 1: Almaty - Shymbulak mountain resort - Talgar pass

Stop At: Shymbulak, Kerey and Zhanibek Khans St 558/1, Almaty 050020, Kazakhstan
Meeting the guide at pre-agreed point in Almaty at 8 a.m. Transfer to Medeu sports complex. Ascent by cable car to the highest point of Shymbulak Mountain Resort – Talgar pass 3163 meters high. Yurt lodge check-in. There is traditional yurt, so the sleeping places will be arranged straight on the floor in sleeping bags. The whole yurt and the floor are heated. Electricity inside the yurt, tab water and rest room is outside. Meals will be provided in separate dining yurt. Touring with guide in the area nearby resort. Few of the most interesting spots will be taken into consideration: Til’ glacier, couloirs of Shkol’nik, Chkalov and Edelweiss peak.

Coming back to the yurt. Dinner in Kazakh national style. Overnight in the yurt.

Located in the Small Almaty Gorge at an altitude of 1691 meters above sea level, Medeu sports complex is the world's largest mountain skating rink with the an artificial ice field area - 10,5 thousand square meters. Over 200 world records have been set here for all the time at all distances among men and women from the date of establishment in 1951.

Shymbulak Mountain Resort recommended itself as one of the best ski resorts in Central Asia. Located in Small Almaty Gorge of Ile Alatau mountains at an altitude of 2260 meters above sea level, 20-minutes drive from center of Almaty. Resort was founded in 1954 as a training base for professional Soviet skiers, championships of the USSR and Kazakhstan were held on its slopes. In 2017, the resort hosted the International ski and snowboard competitions of the 28th World Winter Universiade. The Russian Forbes included Shymbulak into the top of the best ten ski resorts for Russians.

Breakfast at 6.30 am. Preparations, additional instructions from the guide and beginning of the route. Backcountry to Fizkul’turnik peak or Pioneer pass.

Duration: 5-6 hours.
Elevation gain: 900 meters.
Descend length ~ 5 km.
Slope gradient: 20 – 40 degrees.

Coming back to the yurt. Rest. Free time. Dinner in Kazakh national style in the dining yurt. Overnight in the sleeping yurt.

Talgar pass is a starting point for the hiking and touring routes to Bogdanovich Glacier, which located under the eastern slope of Nursultan peak. The glacier was named by glaciologist Dmitriev in 1911, in honor of the Polish-Russian professor-geologist Karl Bogdanovich, researcher of the earthquake that occurred in Verniy city (old name of Almaty) in 1910. From the observation point of Bogdanovich glacier opens a magnificent view of surrounding peaks: Amangeldy, Nursultan, Karlytau and many other.

Day 3: Talgar pass - Shymbulak mountain resort - Almaty

Breakfast at 6.30 am. Preaprations and additional instructions from the guide and beginning of the route. Not later than 7:30 am start moving to the west, in direction of Bogdanovich Glacier. This day you will make ascent to Karlytau peak.

Duration: 6-7 hours.
Elevation gain: 1000 meters.
Descend length ~ 6 km.
Slope gradient: 20 – 40 degrees.

Coming back to the yurt. Rest. Apreski in “3200 Bar” or “Oblaka” restaurant, free time. At 4 pm descent to Shymbulak low station by cable car or skis and snowboards, depending on weather and snow conditions. Dinner in local cafe in Almaty. Transfer to pre-agreed point in Almaty.
